The Window
Limited edition print with an original poem by Claire L. Evans
The window opens inwards
the breeze comes off the sea
Four pomegranates formed here
on an abandoned tree
Light made sweet and liquid
pours mind from leaf to leaf
Passing something like forgiveness
between this world and me
What thunder is a footstep
how meaningless a dream
To the worm, and all its cousins
each waiting hungrily
From grit against the darkness
a pearl forms like a seed
Sometimes I have to close my eyes
so I can really see
– Claire L. Evans
Object + Word
Object + Word is a collaborative project where I invited three authors – a musician, a film director, and a painter – to interpret my work through writing. Each author selected an illustration from my sketchbook and wrote a piece to accompany it. There were no requirements for the format or style of writing. I simply asked them to be inspired. I created a polished illustration and print based on the original sketch.
